NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team opens the 2013 Big 12 season against Texas Tech at home Wednesday night as the Sooners puts a 15-game winning streak against the Red Raiders on the line.

7 Reasons to See Oklahoma’s Big 12 Opener on Wednesday

1. Oklahoma on a Roll in Conference Openers
Oklahoma is 8-9 in Big 12 openers dating back to the league’s inaugural season in 1996. The Sooners have won each of their last seven since the 2006 season, including a 3-2 win at Texas Tech in 2008, and are 7-2 under Santiago Restrepo. In home Big 12 openers, OU is 9-8; having won each of its last six, including a 3-1 win over Texas Tech in 2010.

2. 15 Wins in a Row
Despite winning each of the last 15 meetings, the Sooners still trail the all-time series against the Red Raiders, 34-28. At home, Oklahoma is 15-13 against Texas Tech. Under Restrepo, the Sooners own a 16-2 record with the two losses coming in 2004 and 2005.

3. Camp Crimson Reunion Night
Boomer Sooner wristband bracelets will be given away to the first 250 fans in attendance and it will also be $0.50 hot dog night at McCasland. Wednesday’s match is also the first designated Cane’s Challenge match where all fans can use their ticket stub to receive a buy-one-get-one free at Cane’s if the Sooners get five aces in the match.

4. Home Court Advantage
Despite the loss to Miami, Oklahoma is 3-1 in home matches this season and improved to 78-36 (.684) at McCasland Field House under Restrepo. The Sooners are averaging 724 in attendance at home dates, topped with 868 in the home opener against Arkansas on September 3.

5. Migliazzo in the Middle
Sophomore Taylor Migliazzo earned the starting libero position six matches into the season and just last week set a program-record for digs in a five-set match with 40 at Tulsa. She gained the team lead in digs per set with 3.76 and is coming off a 29-dig effort in Saturday’s win over LIU Brooklyn.

6. McLaurin’s Ranks
Senior middle blocker Sallie McLaurin leads the Big 12 in both hitting percentage (.456) and blocks per set (1.39), which are good enough for ninth and 18th in the nation, respectively. She is also second in points per set (4.77, 26th) and third in kills per set (3.82, 61st).

7. Williams Digging Deep
Senior defensive specialist Eden Williams started the season as the libero in the first five matches before returning to the role she played over the last three seasons. For her career, she has 810 total digs, averaging 2.14 per set. This season, Williams is averaging 2.80 per set and at that rate would reach the 1,000-dig mark in better than 68 sets. With 16 matches remaining in the regular season, the Sooners are guaranteed to play at least 48 sets.
