PORTLAND, Ore. – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team fell to Pacific, 3-2, at the PSU Tournament hosted by Portland State, Friday evening. The loss was the first of the season for the Sooners as they dropped to 4-1, while the Tigers improved to 4-2.

Pacific outlasted Oklahoma, 27-25 in the first set, but the Sooners bounced back for 25-20 and 25-16 wins in the second and third. The Tigers came back for a narrow 25-22 win in the fourth and closed out the match, 15-12, in the fifth.

Oklahoma had started the season 4-0 for the third consecutive season and fifth time under head coach Santiago Restrepo.

Senior middle blocker Sallie McLaurin (Midwest City, Okla.) led the way for the Sooners with a season-high 19 kills as she hit .419. McLaurin has registered an attack rate of .400 or higher in four out of five matches this season. Sophomore outside hitter Kierra Holst (Coppell, Texas) finished second on the team with 16 kills and a .283 hitting percentage.

Pacific was led by Kat Shulz’ 16 kills. Lexi Elman and Jennifer Sanders also ended the match in double figures with 14 and 13, respectively.

For the match, Oklahoma outhit the Tigers, .264-.213.

Sophomore setter Julia Doyle (Plymouth, Minn.) collected a season-high 45 assists. Kimmy Whitson led the Pacific offense with 55 assists.

On the defensive side of the ball, senior libero Eden Williams (Amarillo, Texas) set a new career-high in digs with 21, followed by classmate Keila Rodriguez (Gurabo, Puerto Rico) with 18.

The Sooners return to action on Saturday at 2:00 pm CT against Portland State, followed by a 7:00 pm match against BYU; a rematch of the 2012 NCAA Second Round.
