LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Oklahoma senior Sallie McLaurin has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Southwest Team. A middle blocker from Midwest City, Okla., this is her third straight year being selected to the All-Region team.
McLaurin was a First Team selection a year ago and earned Honorable Mention following her sophomore season in 2011. This marks the 19th All-Region honor in program history and the eighth since 2009.
McLaurin led the Sooners to a 24-8 overall record, 11-5 third place finished in the Big 12 and an appearance in their fifth straight NCAA Tournament; reaching the Second Round. A unanimous All-Big 12 First Team selection, McLaurin powered the OU attack with a team-high 3.78 kills per set and league-high .423 hitting percentage.
For her career, McLaurin finished seventh in the Oklahoma record book with 1,351 kills and finished seven shy of the single season record with 438 this year. She owns the team’s block assist record with 529 and is second all-time with 633 total blocks.
Throughout the regular season, McLaurin picked up five Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week awards and was named the AVCA National Player of the Week on September 17. She was also named to the Capital One All-Academic Team as well as the Big 12 All-Academic Team.
