NORMAN, Okla.— The second installment of the Bedlam series saw a different outcome from the first as the No. 18 Oklahoma women’s tennis team  (16-5, 6-3) won its final home match with a 4-3 victory over No. 21 Oklahoma State (13-6, 7-1).

The first matchup between the rivals resulted in a 4-2 Oklahoma State victory as only the singles portion of the match was played in accordance with the College MatchDay format.

Doubles started off Saturday’s matchup, but with an interesting twist as senior Whitney Ritchie teamed up with freshman Morgan Chumney at No. 1 and seniors Mia Lancaster and Whitney Wofford joined forces at No. 3.

Ritchie and Chumney had no trouble playing together as they sailed to an easy 8-3 victory on court one. An 8-4 loss by senior Hermon Brhane and sophomore Zita Engbroks on court two brought the doubles point down to court three.

The doubles point came down to a tiebreaker after OSU rallied to win four sets in a row and take a 7-6 lead. Lancaster and Wofford tied the match at seven to keep the Sooners alive and continued on to win the tiebreak and secure the doubles point for Oklahoma.

Ritchie showed her singles dominance, taking down OSU’s Viktoriya Lushkova in straight sets at the No. 1 position to give the Sooners the 2-0 lead. The senior took control early and only gave up two games, winning 6-1, 6-1.

“I came out really strong and never really let up,” Ritchie said. “She kept making errors and I didn’t have to do anything special except play my game. It was great to have the home crowd out here, and it was fun playing in front of them.”

Oklahoma State took the first set on five of six courts but four Sooners forced third sets to keep OU in the game. Brhane took down Megan McCray at the No. 2 spot to give the Sooners a 3-2 lead with two courts remaining.

Clinching the win for the Sooners was junior Abbi Melrose with a 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 win over Carla Tur Mari at the No. 5 position.

“We were down five first sets and looked like we had no hope with Brhane or Lancaster,” OU head coach David Mullins said. “But sure enough, Brhane does what she always does and Mia the same. You can never count them out.”

The Sooners’ next stop is Fort Worth, Texas, for the Big 12 Tennis Championships. Hosted by TCU, the tournament will take place from Thursday, April 24 to Sunday, April 27. Tickets can be purchased here or by calling (877)-828-3764.
