NORMAN, Okla.— All three seniors walked away with wins as the 18th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners (13-3, 3-1) routed the No. 47 Kansas Jayhawks (11-6, 2-2) Sunday, March 30, in Lawrence, Kan.

For just the second time this season, the Sooners won all seven points to shutout their opponent. The first came on January 19 as OU defeated North Texas 7-0.

For the third straight match, the Sooners picked up an early advantage by winning the doubles point. Seniors Mia Lancaster and Whitney Ritchie picked up their 10th doubles win of the season with an 8-3 victory on court one.

Clinching the point for Oklahoma was senior Hermon Brhane and sophomore Zita Engbroks on court three. The duo topped Caroline Henderson and Morgan Barnhill 8-3.

“We had a really good doubles performance,” Engbroks said. “I felt pretty good and confident. It was another good win for us.”

For the second day in a row, Brhane and Lancaster finished just moments apart to give the Sooners a 3-0 lead. Brhane took down Maria Cardona 6-4, 6-3 at the No.2 position with Lancaster following suit and defeating Anastasija Trubica 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4.

“I felt very confident against this team,” Lancaster said. “I just went out there and took care of business.”

Seconds later, Ritchie clinched the Sooner victory at the No. 1 spot. After falling 6-1 in her second set, Ritchie took six straight games in the third set to win 6-3, 1-6, 6-0.

Freshman Morgan Chumney notched her second singles win of the weekend with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 victory at the No. 3 spot.

After falling Friday to Kansas State, sophomore Emma Devine picked up a 7-5, 6-4 win at the No. 5 position.

Junior Abbi Melrose finished the Sooner shutout with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Morgan Barnhill on court six.

The Sooners return to Norman for a two-match home stand against West Virginia and Iowa State. OU will take on the Mountaineers on Friday, April 4, at 5 p.m. and the Cyclones on Sunday, March 6, at 12 p.m.

Sunday’s match against the Cyclones will be Whitney Wofford Day. There will be free pizza for all in attendance, a serving contest and a drawing for a racquet used by Whitney.
