Joining the OU women's tennis team is freshman Ann Pepper. Ann hails from Edmond, Oklahoma and was a No. 1 doubles state champion her junior year at Edmond North. She is majoring in business and plans to get involved in energy management.
How does it feel knowing you're an athlete at one of the top universities in the nation?
Ann Pepper: “Playing here is a huge honor. This school is amazing and it just wouldn’t feel right playing anywhere else.
Why did you choose OU over other schools?
AP: “I chose this school because my family all went here and the tennis program is really good and I know my game can improve greatly here.”
What are your hopes and expectations for yourself this year?
AP: “I am hoping that I will improve as a player and become a better person off the court.”
Why and when did you start playing tennis?
AP: “I started playing tennis when I was about 10 because my mom had played in college and my sister was also playing so it was a fun family thing to participate in.”
What is your favorite memory from playing tennis?
AP: “My favorite memory from playing tennis is meeting so many people and creating friendships that I still have with girls that are now playing at different colleges.”
What is one of your favorite things about OU?
AP: “My favorite thing about OU is that even with athletics the school still focusses greatly on academics and wants you to excel in both and does everything they can to help accomplish that.”
What has been the most difficult transition from high school to college tennis?
AP: “The hardest transition for me has been managing my time because now I am busier than I was in high school and still having to balance tennis and academics.”
Who is your tennis idol/role model?
AP: “my idol or role model would be Sabine Lisicki because she always fights and never gives up.”
If you could play against any professional tennis player, male or female, who would it be and why?
AP: “If I could play a professional tennis player it would be roger Federer because he is the greatest of all time and that would be amazing.”
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
AP: “When I was little I always wanted to be a Marine Biologist because I loved animals and being in the water.”
If you hadn't come to OU where would you have gone instead?
AP: “If I hadn’t come to OU I would of wanted to go somewhere in Virginia because I love it there so much.”
What is a motto you live by?
AP: “A motto I live by ‘You cannot change your destination overnight, but you can change your direction overnight.’”&
What is your major and what do you want to do with your degree when you graduate?
AP: “My major is business and I want to get involved with energy management.”
What are your hobbies and interest?
AP: “My hobbies include hanging out with my friends and I really enjoy traveling and going to the lake.”
If you didn't play tennis, what sport would you want to play?
AP: “Volleyball. My height seems like it would be a good component for that sport.”
