NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma women’s tennis juniors Hermon Brhane and Whitney Ritchie were named All-Americans by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
Brhane and Ritchie finished the 2013 season as the ninth-ranked doubles team and reached the round of 16 at the NCAA Doubles Championship in May.
"I could not be happier for Whitney and Hermon,” OU head coach David Mullins said. “They had an outstanding season and are extremely deserving of this great honor. What is even more exciting is that they will be back again next year to try and build upon the progress they made this past season. We are very proud of them and I feel very fortunate to be their coach."
They are the first All-Americans at OU since Anda Perianu earned singles honors in 2004 and represent the second Oklahoma doubles team to earn honors. Susie Campbell and Karen Marshall were named All-Americans in 1988.
Brhane and Ritchie were both members of the All-Big 12 Singles and Doubles Teams. Brhane was also the 2013 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.
The duo concluded the spring with a 14-6 record.
