NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma women’s tennis team returns to Big 12 action in Norman Friday, March 29, at 5 p.m., at the Headington Family Tennis Center to face No. 25 Oklahoma State for the first round of the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Bedlam Series.
Oklahoma (9-6, 2-2) ranked 39th in the latest ITA rankings and is returning from a 7-0 sweep of UC Santa Barbara last Sunday.
OU has faced six teams currently ranked in the ITA in its last seven matches.
“We have had some great battles with OSU in recent years and I am expecting nothing less this coming weekend.” OU head coach David Mullins said.
Oklahoma holds a 20-28 series record against the Cowgirls dating back to 1975. After suffering a 4-3 loss to OSU in Mullins first season at Oklahoma, the Sooners have won four in a row against the Cowgirls under Mullins.
“OSU is having a great year and we will need to be at our best to get the win.” Mullins added.
Oklahoma State (9-3, 1-1) enters Friday’s match after back-to-back wins in San Diego, Calif. over No. 52 Illinois and No. 12 Nebraska.
The doubles point will be key Friday against the Cowgirls. Oklahoma has won the doubles point in all nine of its wins and lost the doubles point in all six losses.
Hermon Brhane and Whitney lead OU in doubles. The duo is ranked No. 15 nationally in doubles and holds a team-best 9-4 record at the No. 1 position.
