NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma juniors Hermon Brhane and Whitney Ritchie were selected as one of the 32 doubles pairs to compete in the 2013 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships, the organization announced Tuesday.
The notice came one day after the 36th-ranked Sooners earned an at-large bid for the 64-team NCAA Tournament. OU begins first round play against No. 26 Arizona State Friday, May 10, at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.
The NCAA Championships for singles and doubles team begin May 22-27 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Urbana, Ill., following the conclusion of the team championships that run May 17-21.
The doubles duo ended the regular season ranked No. 9 nationally and holds a team-best record of 13-5 at the No. 1 position.
“Whitney and Hermon have had an incredible season,” OU head coach David Mullins said. “This is a very well deserved honor for all their successes in the fall and especially this spring.”
Brhane and Ritchie earned an at-large selection after ending the season on four straight victories at the No. 1 spot, including three over nationally ranked opponents.
“They play an exciting brand of doubles and are capable of playing with and beating anyone in the country,” Mullins stated. “They will be going to Illinois with the goal of winning an NCAA title.”
