NORMAN, Okla.—
In nearly a four and half hour match, a comeback win for Alex Ghilea secured No. 5 Oklahoma’s tenth victory with a 5-2 triumph over the Texas A&M Aggies Sunday.

“For Alex it’s a great effort for him to win a big match like that,” head coach John Roddick said. “He’s been struggling with those and he’s been inching to getting better.”

“He’s been getting better every week and now it’s starting to show. Hopefully this gives him some confidence and he just continues to get better.”

Ghilea started his match being down 1-4 in the first set, going on to lose that set 5-7. The freshman never lost focus and bounced back to win the second set 7-5. In his final set, Ghilea rolled to a 6-2 set win, topping Max Lunkin 5-7, 7-5, 6-2.

Junior Dane Webb and freshman Andrew Harris earned the first two single points.

Harris won the first singles point, ousting Junior Ore 6-3, 6-3. Webb followed suit, beating Jeremy Efferding 7-5, 6-2.

In addition to strong singles play, the Sooners played outstanding in doubles.

“Our doubles play was superb today,” Roddick said. “We did a great job of raising our level compared to what we did against Kentucky. I thought A&M played really well in doubles as well it was just a pretty high level.”

“For us to play a team that good in doubles and to match that level and close it out was great. All in all it was a great effort.”

Oklahoma won the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions.

Peerakit Siributwong  and Nick Papac got the first win, defeating Jordan Szabo and Efferding 8-6.

Guillermo Alcorta and Axel Alvarez battled with Harrison Adams and Shane Vinsant, going to 7-2 set tiebreak. Alcorta and Alvarez prevailed 8-7, securing the doubles point for OU.

Up next, Roddick’s squad hosts Louisville Sunday, March 2 at 12 p.m.
