NORMAN, Okla. — The University of Oklahoma men’s tennis team landed its highest ranking ever in this week’s edition of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s weekly ratings, coming in at No. 3.
“We’re trying to move into the outdoor [season] and we had a good weekend last weekend,” OU head coach John Roddick said. “Some hard work is showing some results, but at the same time our team knows it’s a long way until the end of year.”
As the team pushes farther into spring, Roddick also says that his squad can use this mile marker as motivation before heading to Athens, Ga., for the NCAA Championships.
“It just puts you in a good position, a better position than we’ve been in the past few years moving into the outdoor season. So that part of it is good and I know it motivates the guys to try to have as good of an outdoor season as you can.”
In addition to earning a No. 3 ranking, Oklahoma also has four players ranked in the ITA’s Top 25 singles rankings, the only team to do so.
Senior Guillermo Alcorta sits second. Axel Alvarez moved from No. 4 to 3. Dane Webb and Andrew Harris sit No. 24 and 25, respectively.
The Sooners continue their home stint, Sunday, March 2, when No. 38 Louisville visits Norman. The match begins at 12 p.m.
