NORMAN, Okla. -- Three Sooners advanced to the Round of 16 and one doubles duo reached the semifinals at the Baylor Invitational in Waco, Texas, Friday.
Austin Siegel defeated UT-Arlington’s Sebestian Erimicioiu in straight sets, 7-6 (2), 6-4. Following suit, both Axel Alvarez and Nick Papac swept their opponents in the first round.
Alvarez and Papac teamed up for two victories in doubles. The duo beat Laredo Community College’s Hamid Derbani and Arturo Pinazo in the first round, 8-5, and then defeated UTA’s Erimicioiu and Daniel Armengol , 8-3. The pair ended their day beating Baylor’s Mate Zsiga and Diego Galeano on their home court, 8-4.
Austin Siegel will face Baylor’s Tony Lupieri in his next match. Lupieri disposed of Louisiana- Lafayette’s Jake Wynan, 6-4, 6-4 in the first round.
Alvarez will take on UT-Arlington’s Artemiy Nikitin and Papac will play ULL’s Edgar Lopez in the quarterfinals. Nikitin beat Armengol in the first round and Lopez defeated UTSA’s Diogo Casa on his way to the second round.
In doubles, Alvarez and Papac, face brothers Jake and Jarred Wynan of Baylor Saturday.
