NORMAN, Okla. -- With a three-round 859 (-5), the 14th-ranked Oklahoma men's golf team tied for sixth place at the competitive Puerto Rico Classic, played at the 6,092-yard, par-72 River Course at the Rio Mar Beach Resort and Spa in Rio Grande, P.R.

On Tuesday, the Sooners shot a 6-under 282 for the second straight round. The 15-team field a featured 11 ranked in the top 50 of the latest Golfweek/Sagarin poll, including five that are within the top 15.

"Overall, we had a solid day," OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. "We had four guys shoot under par in the final round, and that is always good. The guys are disappointed in our performance, and I expect us to get better from the week."

No. 1 Alabama took the tournament title with a 45-under 819, four strokes ahead of No. 4 Georgia Tech. No. 6 Georgia finished third with an 835 (-29), followed by No. 31 Clemson and No. 15 Virginia Tech with scores of 847 (-17) and 855 (-9), respectively.

The highest finisher for the Sooners was Max McGreevy, who took a share of 12th with a three-round 210 (-6), his third top-20 showing of the season. The freshman, who shot a 3-under 69 in the final round, pocketed seven biridies on Tuesday, including three in a row on holes No. 10-12.

After shooting a 1-under 71 for the final 18 holes, sophomore Beau Titsworth finished in a tie for 38th place with a 218 (+2). Senior Michael Schoolcraft also shot a 1-under 71 Tuesday en route to a three-round 219 (+3) and 43rd-place finish.

Junior Michael Gellerman claimed a share of 47th with a 220 (+4) after shooting a 75 (+3) in the final round, while junior Charlie Saxon carded a 1-under 71, bringing his three-round total to 221 (+5), good for 51st place.

The Sooners return to the course March 7-9 as they compete in the elite Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters in Las Vegas, Nev.
