NORMAN, Okla. -- With a three-round 876 (+24), the 12th-ranked University of Oklahoma men’s golf team claimed the UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational for the second straight season. The two-day, 54-hole tournament, OU’s first of the spring, was played at the 6,765-yard, par-71 Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas.

Entering the final round, the Sooners held a one-stroke lead and shot a 13-over 297 on Tuesday to finish five strokes ahead of 28th-ranked Baylor. North Texas took third in the 15-team field with a 33-over 885, while Louisiana and East Carolina tied for fourth with an 896 (+44).

The win is the sixth for OU under head coach Ryan Hybl and the second this season. The Sooners also won the fall-opening Golfweek Conference Challenge at the Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa.

“Our boys fought hard all week, even with there being some tough weather,” Hybl said. “It wasn’t pretty, but we got the job done, and that has to happen sometimes. We have a huge opportunity to get better, and that is the best part.”

The highest finisher for the Sooners was Michael Schoolcraft, whose 2-over 215 secured him third place, matching his career-best finish. The senior recorded a 4-over 75 for the final 18 holes.

With 4-over 217s, junior Michael Gellerman and sophomore Beau Titsworth landed in a tie for fifth place, the highest career showings for both. On Tuesday, Gellerman carded a 74 (+3) en route to securing his second top-five finish as a Sooner, while Titsworth, who competed as an individual, fired a 2-over 73.

Senior Eduardo Castiello and junior Charlie Saxon tied for 21st place with scores of 224 (+11). Castiello shot a 4-over 75 in the final round, and Saxon recorded a 77 (+6).

Max McGreevy carded a 2-over 73 for the final 18 holes, his lowest score of the tournament and 10 strokes better than his first-round total. The freshman tied for 44th place with a 231 (+18).

Freshman Emilio Maurer also participated as an individual and earned a share of 59th place with a 233 (+20).

The Sooners return to the course Feb. 23-25 when they travel to Rio Grande, P.R., for the Puerto Rico Classic.
