TRINITY, Texas -- The No. 15 University of Oklahoma men's golf team fell to seventh place after the third round of the Big 12 Championship. The three-day, 72-hole tournament is being played at the par-72, 7,743-yard Whispering Pines Golf Club.
On Saturday, the Sooners tallied a 12-over 300 against the nine-team field, which includes six squads ranked within the top 50 of the latest Golfweek/Sagarin poll. OU, who started the day in fifth place, has a 54-hole total of 893 (+29).
Leading the pack is No. 39 Texas Tech, who boasts a three-round 866 (+2). Right behind is No. 18 Texas with a 3-over 867. No. 47 Iowa State is third with a 883 (+19), while No. 4 Oklahoma State and No. 52 TCU are tied for fourth with 23-over 887s.
Beau Titsworth, OU's most consistent player of the tournament, remained in sixth place, one stroke outside the top five. The sophomore carded a 1-over 73 on Saturday, bringing his three-round total to 218 (+2).
With a 223 (+7), senior Michael Schoolcraft is in a tie for 19th place. In the third round, Schoolcraft pocketed four birdies en route to a 4-over 76.
One stroke behind Schoolcraft is Michael Gellerman, who is in a tie for 23rd place with a 224 (+8). On Saturday, Gellerman shot a 5-over-par 77.
In an up-and-down round, freshman Max McGreevy finished with a 2-over 74, his lowest of the event. McGreevy pocketed seven birdies on Saturday, including on the first two holes, but added six bogeys and one double bogey. His total of 228 (+12) has him in 32nd place.
Junior Charlie Saxon recorded an 80 (+8) for the third round, placing him in a tie for 38th with an 18-over 234.
The fourth and final round of the Big 12 Championship is scheduled for Sunday. The Sooners will be paired with Kansas and Kansas State and will tee off from hole No. 10 at 8 a.m. CT. Live stats will be available at GolfStat.com.
