NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma freshman Max McGreevy was named the Big 12 Men’s Golfer of the Month for September, the conference announced Wednesday.

McGreevy led the Sooners in both of their tournaments in September, finishing in a tie for fifth place at the Golfweek Conference Challenge with a three-round 213 (-3) and eighth place with a 1-over 214 at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational. OU finished first and second in those events, respectively.

The Edmond, Okla., native pocketed 14 birdies at the Golfweek Conference Challenge and seven more and an eagle in three rounds at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational. In the second round of the Jack Nicklaus Invitational, McGreevy fired a career-low 68 (-3).

McGreevy carded a 71.17 (-0.33) stroke average for the month and became the first Sooner to take home the award since Ryan Sirman in November 2010.

McGreevy and the Sooners return to the course Oct. 6-8 at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate in Erin, Wis.
