NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma men’s golf team holds a commanding 13-stroke lead over second-place Houston through two rounds at the Golfweek Conference Challenge with a 568 (-8). The three-day, 54-hole event features 15 teams from 15 different conferences and is being played at the 7,301-yard, par-72 Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa.

OU, which is No. 19 in the preseason Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, shot a 10-under-par 278, the only under-par score of the day, in Monday’s second round.

All five Sooners in the lineup posted par or better second rounds and sit in the top 11 out of 75 competitors. As a team, OU made 26 total birdies Monday.

“Our guys played great today, but more importantly, we finished strong,” OU head coach Ryan Hybl said. “It is always fun to have everyone shoot par or better, and we did that today.”

Sophomore Beau Titsworth, who began the day in a tie for 18th place, currently shares the lead with a two-round 141 (-3). During the second 18 holes, Titsworth carded five birdies, including four in the last five holes, and just one bogey to post a 4-under 68.

Two Sooners, freshman Max McGreevy and senior Michael Schoolcraft, are tied for fifth place with scores of 142 (-2). McGreevy recorded six birdies en route to a 3-under 69, while Schoolcraft had four birdies and shot a 70 (-2).

Tied for 11th place are juniors Michael Gellerman and Charlie Saxon with scores of 144 (E). Gellerman opened the round with birdies on four of the first five holes and closed the round with two more on holes No. 17 and 18. He shot a 1-under 71, while Saxon scored an even par 72 for the second straight day. Saxon pocketed five birdies and added an eagle on the par-5 second hole.

Hybl said that entering Tuesday with a large lead, he hopes to see the Sooners remain grounded.

“I want our golf to speak for itself tomorrow and for our guys to stay humble and in the moment, and we will see how it plays out,” Hybl said.

The final round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge is slated for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday with a shotgun start. Live scoring will be available at GolfStat.com.
