The 24 runs surpass the old mark of 23 set in a 23-1 win over Central Arkansas on March 26, 2008. In addition to its 13 hits, the team also drew 15 walks, one off the school record of 16 set against Southwestern on April 12, 1975.
The Sooners hit three home runs, including grand slams from sophomores Shelby Pendley and Kelley Reeves. For Pendley it was her 17th homer of the year, tying for the ninth most in a season at OU, while Reeves' blast was the first home run of her career.
The game was played in front of a season high 1,433 fans. It tied for the seventh-largest crowd in Marita Hynes Stadium history with a contest against Texas A&M on May 19, 2002.
Oklahoma took command in the first inning, taking advantage of four Iowa State errors.
With one out and runners on the corners, the scoring started when sophomores Lauren Chamberlain and Georgia Casey executed a double steal and Chamberlain used a head-first slide to get in under the tag. Senior Keilani Ricketts then followed with a single through the right side to bring home Casey.
After Ricketts stole second and fellow senior Jessica Shults walked, junior Brittany Williams smashed a double off the top of the wall in left center to make it 3-0. Junior Destinee Martinez chopped the first pitch she saw back up the middle to score Ricketts and move Williams to third.
Two Iowa State errors helped the Sooners move ahead 6-0 when sophomore Callie Parsons reached on a bunt single. In her attempt to get Parsons, Cyclones first baseman Erica Miller threw the ball into right field, but Sarah Hawryluk also committed a throwing error to allow Martinez and Williams to score.
Senior Brianna Turang also reached on a single and Parsons came home to score on an ISU error. Chamberlain batted for the second time in the inning and lifted a high fly to center field that was dropped by Brittany Gomez. Casey walked to fill the bases and Pendley smoked one to right field for her first grand slam as a Sooner.
Leading 11-0, OU added to its lead with 12 more runs in the second inning.
With runners on the corners, Turang singled through the left side to bring home sophomore Jessica Vest who was running for Williams. Chamberlain walked to load the bases before Casey drew a walk to make it 13-0. Pendley was hit by a pitch and Ricketts and Shults each worked walks of their own to put OU up 16-0.
Two batters later, freshman Erin Miller walked and sophomore Erica Sampson also received a free pass to make the score 18-0. Reeves then stepped in and hit a homer just to the left of the batters' eye in center field to lengthen the lead to 22-0 and give OU its fifth grand slam of the season.
Batting for the second time in the inning, Chamberlain went back-to-back with Reeves as she hit a solo home run to right field. It was her 22nd blast of the year and 53rd of her career, tying Texas A&M's Meagan May for the fifth most in Big 12 history.
Oklahoma got the scoring record in the fourth inning when Erin Miller was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home the team's 24th run.
Ricketts got the start in the circle for Oklahoma and pitched the first two innings. She struck out four and walked two before handing off to freshman Leslie Miller. Throwing the next 1.1 innings, Miller struck out one and allowed a solo home run, but earned the first win of her career.
Freshman Taylor Dewbery closed out the game for the Sooners, giving up three hits over the final 1.2 innings.
The series continues on Saturday with first pitch coming at noon. The game will be shown live on Fox College Sports Atlantic.
