PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -- The No. 1 Oklahoma softball team improved to 13-0 on the young season with a 5-2 victory over UC Santa Barbara on Friday afternoon at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif.

Junior Brittany Williams led the Sooners' offense as she went 3-3 with a team-high two runs batted in, but it was sophomore Lauren Chamberlain who started the game with her second leadoff home run of the season, launching one to left field.

It was Chamberlain's seventh overall this year, the 37th of her career, and it extended her hitting streak to 13 games this season.

In the second inning, Williams led off with a bloop to shallow center field and hustled in to second base for a double. A groundout advanced Williams to third and Brianna Turang followed with a sharp single to center field to make it 2-0.

The Sooners doubled their lead in the third inning.

With runners on first and second and one out, Williams hit a chopper over first baseman Lauren Boser's head to drive in Keilani Ricketts. Shelby Pendley reached third on the play and came home one batter later on Destinee Martinez's squeeze bunt.

The Gauchos scored their only runs in the bottom of the third when Shelby Wisdom hit a two-run double to center field.

After a scoreless fourth, Oklahoma's lead grew to 5-2 in the top of the fifth inning.

Ricketts led off with a single and was pinch run for by Erin Miller. An illegal pitch advanced Miller to second before a groundout advanced her to third. Williams stepped in delivered an RBI single to right field.

UC Santa Barbara threatened in the bottom of the fifth as the Gauchos loaded the bases, but Ricketts came on in relief of Michelle Gascoigne and induced a fly ball to right field to thwart the threat.

Gascoigne got the win to move to 7-0 on the season. She struck out 11 batters and allowed two earned runs on four hits. Ricketts came on in relief to get the save. She held the Gauchos hitless over the last 2.1 innings, striking out four.
