NORMAN, Okla. – The defending national champion Oklahoma softball team will return to the field this fall for an eight-game slate, head coach Patty Gasso announced Monday.

The fall schedule starts the weekend of Sept. 27-29 with the annual Fall Festival Tournament at Marita Hynes Field. Oklahoma opens play on Friday, Sept. 27, against Connors State at 6:45 p.m. OU then faces St. Gregory’s on Saturday Sept. 28, at 4:45 p.m. before closing the weekend with games against Independence (Kan.) Community College and Seminole State College at 2:30 and 4:45 p.m., respectively.

The following Sunday, Oct. 6, Oklahoma hosts Arkansas in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The two teams met last year in the NCAA Regionals with the Sooners winning both games.

Wednesday, Oct. 16, the Sooners welcome North Texas in a single game at 6 p.m. During the 2013 season, OU visited Denton, Texas, and beat the Mean Green, 12-1, in six innings.

The fall season concludes on Thursday, Oct. 24, when Butler Community College visits Norman. That game is set for 6 p.m.

Fresh off the second national championship in program history, Oklahoma returns 15 players in 2014 from last year’s squad, including USA Softball Player of the Year finalist Lauren Chamberlain and Big 12 Player of the Year Shelby Pendley.
