NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma track and field team headed to Tulsa this weekend to open the outdoor season at the Tulsa Duels. Seven separate Sooners claimed individual victories throughout the competition, while the women finished first overall with 78 points, and the men third with 19 points.

In addition to their wins, several Sooners imprinted their names in the Oklahoma record book with top-10 performances in program history.

Oklahoma dominated the field events as the women swept the top-five spots in the discus competition. Kate Foster led the way with a winning throw of 49.71 meters. She was followed by sophomore Alexandra Morgan who took second (48.59m), redshirt senior Karen Shump who took third with a distance of 48.18 meters and freshman Jennifer Carmichael who finished fourth (44.15m). Redshirt freshman Sarah Tolson rounded out the top five with a distance of 43.84 meters.

Fosters’ distance of 49.71 meters now ranks eighth in school history, while Morgan’s mark of 48.59 meters is tenth all-time.

TULSA DUELS FULL RESULTS

The women continued their success in throws when they took to the field for the hammer throw competition, and made their presence known as three Sooners combined to post top-10 performances. Brooke Garner finished second with the fourth-best throw in program history courtesy of a 50.75-meter throw. She was followed by Foster who threw 50.24 meters for third in the field and Tolson who threw 49.87m for sixth, for the fourth and fifth best distances in school history, respectively.

Additionally, Oklahoma combined for a one-two finish in the women’s javelin as Avione Allgood and Elizabeth Herrs recorded the third and eighth best distances in Oklahoma history, respectively. Allgood claimed her first title in collegiate competition with a distance of 51.94 meters, while Herrs threw 44.60 meters to take the runner-up spot.

On the track, both Erin Jones and Georgina Tamez-Reyna claimed wins for the Crimson and Cream. Jones crossed the line in 11.46 to take the victory and print her name in the OU record books with the eighth-lowest time in program history, while Tamez-Reyna claimed the 100-meter hurdles after she stopped the clock at 14.11.

Three men took home wins for the Sooners as Waymon Storey finished first in the men’s 100-meter dash (10.65) and Nathaniel Winfrey crossed the finish line in 21.31 in the 200-meter dash to take home the win. Additionally, Tyler Renton threw the third-best javelin performance in Oklahoma track and field history with a distance of 65.19m en route to his first collegiate victory.

The Sooners return home next weekend for the John Jacobs Invitational. The meet will run from Friday, March 22 to Saturday, March 23 at the John Jacobs Track Complex in Norman, Okla.
