NORMAN, Okla. – Three Sooners combined to finish in the top-five of the men’s 5,000-meter run at the 2013 Colonial Relays on Friday night. The three-day event, held at Zable Stadium on William & Mary’s campus in Williamsburg, Va., features student-athletes from 40 different colleges and universities across the country.
Senior Kevin Williams captured the first-place finish for Oklahoma after he stopped the clock at 13:59.77, while fellow senior and teammate Kevin Schwab crossed the finish line in 14:01.05 to finish third.
The youngster of the trio, sophomore Ryan Poland, rounded out the top-five with a career-low, 14:03.75 performance to finish fifth in a field of 33 runners. With his performance on Friday night, Poland joins Williams and Schwab in the Oklahoma record books with the ninth fastest time ever recorded by a Sooner in the event.
The distance trio of Williams, Schwab and Poland wrapped up competition for Oklahoma on the east coast, while the rest of the team remains split for the weekend. Select student-athletes are in Denton, Texas, for the North Texas Classic, while a group of throwers and sprinters are on hand in Tempe, Ariz., for the Sun Angel Classic.
