OU is a perfect 10-0 against Arkansas Pine Bluff, including tallying victories over 9-4 and 5-4 in 2012.
Oklahoma rolled to a four-game sweep over Hofstra on the opening weekend of the 2013 season at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
Junior left-handed pitcher Dillon Overton reminded everyone why he's considered one of the top arms in the country, fanning seven over seven frames while surrendering just two hits to help power to a 10-4 victory in the season opener Friday.
OU responded to its first true test of the 2013 campaign like champions, turning a six-run deficit after three and a half innings into an 11-10 walkoff victory in the bottom of the 11th to sweep the Saturday doubleheader at L. Dale Mitchell Park and win the weekend series. Earlier in the day, junior right-handed pitcher Jonathan Gray struck out six batters over 6.2 innings and surrendered just three hits as Oklahoma pushed back Hofstra, 3-2.
Junior infielder Matt Oberste's one-out, three-run home run over the right field wall in the bottom of the ninth inning propelled Oklahoma to a 7-4 victory over Hofstra Sunday and secured a four-game weekend series sweep.
Oklahoma visits Corpus Christi, Texas, this weekend to take part in the 2013 Kleburg Bank College Classic at Whataburger Field. The Sooners will square off against Iowa on Friday at 2 p.m. CT before taking on the host Islanders on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT. TOP 25 POLLS
OU is ranked No. 14 by Collegiate Baseball, No. 18 by Baseball America and No. 21 by Perfect Game.
OBERSTE, OVERTON EARN WEEKLY AWARDS
The University of Oklahoma baseball team's junior infielder Matt Oberste has been named the Big 12 Conference's Player of the Week while left-handed pitcher Dillon Overton has garnered Pitcher of the Week honors, marking the first time since April 27, 2009, that the Sooners have swept the Player and Pitcher of the Week awards. Oberste claims his first career Player of the Week honor, while Overton earns his second Pitcher of the Week award.
Oberste capped off a big opening weekend with his game-winning bomb. He hit .429 with six hits - including a double, a triple and the homer - while driving in a team-high nine runs. His clutch hitting helped the Sooners rally for a three-run ninth inning Saturday night, as he cracked a two-out, two-RBI single to knot the contest at 10-all and send the game into extras. After the first week of play, his nine RBI and 12 total bases lead the Big 12.
Overton, who was named a preseason All-American by both Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America and was recently selected to the 2013 Preseason Golden Spikes Watch List, retired 19 of the final 23 batters he faced in his season debut to improve his career record to 15-7 at OU.
WALK (OFF) THIS WAY
