NORMAN, Okla. -- The third of three Coaches Club sessions for the 2014 spring is scheduled for Wednesday, April 2. The presenter will be Derek Evely, formerly the Center Director for British Athletics at the Loughborough National Performance Center in Loughborough, England, and the former Sport Science Manager at the Canadian Athletics Coaching Center. His topic will be “Planning During the Competitive Season.”
Evely is a world renowned expert on youth development in track and field. In his previous roles, he made significant contributions to the creation of the long-term athlete development models used nationally in both Canada and Great Britain. He coached three World Junior medalists, including Sophie Hitchon, the 2010 World Junior Champion and 2012 Olympic finalist in the hammer from Great Britain. He also coached Olympic and World Championship medalists Dylan Armstrong, shot put, and Gary Reed, 800 meters, both from Canada, for the first five years of their careers. Evely is currently a consultant working with a number of international track and field federations.
Like the previous two sessions, the final session will be held at Headington Hall, on the corner of Jenkins and Lindsey in Norman. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a time for socializing and dinner (included in the registration fee). Evely's presentation will start at 7:15 p.m. Following his presentation, there will be time for a question and answer period.
Cost for the session is $20 and that includes the evening meal to be served at Headington Hall. The fee is payable at the door. Parking for the event is in the lot directly south of Headington Hall with entry to the lot off Jenkins Ave.
While this is the final session of the spring Coaches Club, planning has begun on the next series which will be scheduled during the 2014 fall semester.
