Waco, Texas -- The Oklahoma soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision in its Big 12 conference opener on the road against No. 12 Baylor on Friday night. The Sooners (3-7-1, 0-1-0 Big 12) held the Lady Bears (8-0-2, 1-0-0 Big 12) to an 11-7 shot margin while taking a 3-0 corner advantage, but were unable to match BU on the scoreboard.

"After weathering the first five minutes, I thought we found our way into the game and competed well against a tough Baylor team," head coach Matt Potter said. "The team committed to the game plan and showed a willingess to compete. I felt for the players witht he way we conceded a goal. The response was encouraging, and we had some chances that forced Baylor on their heals. At this level, you have to capitalize when the flow of the game is with you."

OU held Baylor scoreless through the first half of play despite the Lady Bears posting a 6-1 advantage in shots in the first half. Sooner goalkeeper Kassadie Stade made three athletic saves to keep BU off the board, while junior Abby Hodgen notched an early shot on goal offensively.

Baylor got on the board just two minutes into the second half on a goal from Lindsay Burns in the 47th minute of play. Burns sent in a cross from the right side that hit the far post before bouncing into the goal for her first goal of the season. Hodgen returned with a shot just a minute later against Baylor goalkeeper Michelle Kloss, but it flew wide of the goal.

Play progressed with the Lady Bears holding a 1-0 lead for much of the second half. The Sooners increased their offensive push as time wore down in the game, notching five shots in the final 20 minutes of play in an attempt to tie up the contest. Paige Jacobs got one of the Sooners best looks of the final minutes of the match, firing in a shot that Kloss tipped away over the top crossbar. Time ran out on the conference opener, preventing OU's bid to upset the No. 12 Lady Bears.

The Sooners will return to Norman for a week of preparations before hosting Oklahoma State in the Bedlam Series as their Big 12 home opener. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start on Friday, Oct. 4 at the OU Soccer Complex.
