NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma soccer team announced its schedule of 2014 spring matches on Thursday afternoon. The Sooners are set to play a total of six contests throughout March and April, including three matches in Norman at the OU Soccer Complex. All matches will be free and open to the public.
"In the fall, there is little time for learning and only time for doing," head coach Matt Potter said. "With such a large, young group, the lessons of the fall are clear. We now have the time and the opportunity to layer team concepts and ideas with a vision to help our program grow."
OU will host home contests against Central Oklahoma and Baylor on March 1, and will close the spring against Arkansas on April 5. The Sooners are also set to visit North Texas on March 8 and will spend a weekend in Tulsa to face Oral Roberts and Tulsa on March 29.
Oklahoma opened the spring practice schedule on Monday. The Sooners will split training time between John Crain Field at the OU Soccer Complex and the Everest Training Center.
"Our student athletes have all the resources to make progress. It is up to the individual to participate in their own success," Potter added. "Any competitor looks forward to playing and the spring schedule gives our players time to grow and time to perform. It offers the stage to compete against great teams--well-coached and with good tradition."
Potter's squad returns 18 student-athletes who saw playing time in 2013, including eight who started 10 or more contests. The Sooners are set to announce a talented signing class of 10 newcomers next week on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
