Sooner Notebook: Five Notes for Week 10
With only two matches left in the regular season, the Oklahoma soccer team will try and strike out a path to the Big 12 Championship this weekend against conference frontrunner West Virginia. Friday evening’s match against the Mountaineers will serve as Senior Night, honoring Bailey Boulware, Zoe Dickson and Kathryn Watson for their contributions to OU on and off the field.

The Sooners snapped a four-match losing skid last weekend with a 1-0 win over TCU, giving Oklahoma its first conference win of the season. Abby Hodgen buried a free kick in the 54th minute of play, while Kassadie Stade led the OU defense to its fourth shutout win this fall. The victory kept the Sooners’ conference championship hopes alive in a narrow race for one of eight berths in the Big 12 Championship.

The 2013 Big 12 Soccer Championship will take place Nov. 6, 8 and 10 in Kansas City, Mo., at Swope Soccer Village. The top eight teams in the conference advance to tournament play in hopes of claiming the conference postseason title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship. Oklahoma currently sits ninth in the conference standings and is only one game back from the No. 7 and 8 teams.

4. CHASING 100
Oklahoma’s win over TCU last weekend pushed head coach Matt Potter to the brink of the 100-win mark for his coaching career. Potter currently holds 99 career victories spanning two schools and 11 seasons. Potter accumulated 88 victories at his previous stop at Washington State before arriving in Norman prior to the 2012 season. He led the Sooners to a 7-9-4 record in his first season at Oklahoma in 2012.

Fans unable to attend Friday’s Senior Night contest with WVU will be able to watch the match live via Sooner Sports TV powered by FOX. The match will be carried on FS Oklahoma and FCS Atlantic, with Chad McKee on the call and Melissa Terry providing color commentary. Friday’s broadcast marks the 12th time this season that a Sooner soccer match has been carried on live television.
