MOSCOW, Idaho—The Oklahoma soccer team finished in a 0-0 tie with the Idaho Vandals in their first exhibition game of the 2013 preseason on Friday night. The Sooners were on the offensive for much of the game, notching 17 shots and seven shots on goal while holding Idaho to six shots and just two shots on goal.

"I'm pleased with the way we took the game to Idaho today," head coach Matt Potter said. "We established good possession. Seventeen shots and ten corner kicks shows that the endeavor was good. We are on our way with regard to imprinting our philosophy and vision with such a young group."

Sophomore forward Devin Barrett led the Sooners on the night, posting three shots and one shot on goal off the bench. Junior midfielder Abby Hodgen added two shots on goal. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Kassadie Stade paced OU’s defensive effort with two saves.

The Sooners opened the game with a mix of old and new on the field, combining five returners with six newcomers on the playing field. A total of 22 members of the roster saw playing time throughout the contest.

"One of the most exciting parts of the day was that 13 members of our team played in their first collegiate game and showed they can handle and perform on this stage," Potter said. "It is exciting for them and for our program."

OU spent much of the first half on the attack, notching eight shots and one shot on goal while limiting the Vandals to only one shot. The Sooners were unable to capitalize, with their closest opportunity coming around the two-minute mark. Barrett ricocheted a shot off the top post of the goal to narrowly miss OU’s first goal.

The Sooners came out swinging again in the second half, posting nine shots and six shots on goal. Freshman midfielder Jemma Cota gave OU one of their closest, looks, firing a shot on goal under the 10:00 mark that hit the top post of the goal.

Oklahoma will wrap up preseason play on Sunday against Gonzaga. The match is slated for a 1:30 p.m. CT start in Spokane, Wash.
