|Freede Sports Medicine Center|
The athletics training room is a state-of-the-art facility staffed by five full-time, certified athletics trainers, a PT/ATC who is the director of rehabilitative services and eight certified graduate assistant athletics trainers.
The athletics training room contains a treatment area, rehabilitation area, taping area, hydro room, physician's exam room, full-body x-ray area, men's and women's locker rooms and offices for the athletics training room staff.
The treatment area spans fourteen treatment tables, combo e-stim and ultrasound units, a GameReady cryotherapy/compression unit, and two large hydrocollators for heating. All equipment is available for pre- and post-practice treatments for all sports.
The rehabilitation area is equipped with rehab tools to help increase the athlete's range of motion, strength, proprioception and cardiovascular systems. This area includes a Biodex machine used to increase an athlete's strength post-surgery, a Shuttle for non-weight bearing plyometric exercises, cardiovascular machines including an elliptical, stairmaster, two bikes and a UBE for upper body endurance work. The taping area provides eleven taping stations with storage underneath each station. This allows the athletics trainers to efficiently and effectively tape and pad the athletes prior to practice and competitions. This area also has wall-to-wall cabinetry that allows for adequate storage of all athletics training supplies.
The physician's exam room at the entrance of the facility provides space for OU team physicians to perform evaluations of student-athletes. X-rays taken by the full-body x-ray machine located on site can be read with the high/low lightbox on the wall of the physician's office.
