All-American: Gerald McCoy
April 28, 2009

Gerald McCoy, DT - 2008
Defensive tackle Gerald McCoy was named All-America by the Sporting News, and Sports Illustrated. A consensus All-Big 12 selection, the junior from Oklahoma City was cited as the conference defensive player of the year by the league coaches.
McCoy led all of Oklahoma's interior defensive linemen with 30 tackles, a remarkable feat given the opposing blocking schemes devised to neutralize him. He also had 6.5 sacks, the second-highest total on the team, and 11 tackles for loss.
In the national title game, he made his first career interception and returned it 12 yards. That play typified McCoy's performances in the big games. He equaled his career high with two sacks against Texas.
McCoy was honored as an All-American in the same year that he was named to the American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team in recognition to his many public service contributions.
