NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma safety Quinton Carter has been named to the American Football Coaches Association All-America Team for 2010. He becomes the 151st All-American in OU's 116 years of football competition and the 31st of Bob Stoops' 12-year tenure as head coach.
Carter is the first Sooner defensive back to earn All-America honors since Derrick Strait was a consensus selection in 2003.
The senior from Las Vegas, Nev., is currently tied for the team lead in interceptions with four and ranks No. 3 on the team with a career-high 85 tackles, just three off the career-high 88 he had last season. He also has five pass deflections and one fumble recovery.
Earlier this season, Carter had 17 tackles in the Sooners' win over Texas Tech to post the highest total by an OU defensive back since Brandon Everage notched 19 against Colorado in 2002.
In last Saturday's win at Oklahoma State, Carter had a pair of interceptions. In October, Carter was named to the AFCA's All-State Good Works Team based on his community service work.
