Sooners Strengthen Hold on No. 1
September 18, 2011
NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma strengthened its hold on No. 1 in both the latest AP and Coaches Polls released Sunday afternoon. The Sooners defeated then-No. 5 Florida State, 23-13, in front of a record crowd at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee to move to 2-0 on the season.

It marks the 101st week overall since 1936 that Oklahoma has held the No. 1 ranking in the AP Poll. No other team in college football history has been ranked No. 1 more times.

After the win at FSU, four more teams on the OU schedule are in this week's AP Top-25: Oklahoma State (7), Texas A&M (8), Baylor (17) and Texas (19). Iowa State and Missouri are receiving votes.

In the Coaches Poll, the teams included Oklahoma State (6), Texas A&M (8), Texas (18) and Baylor (19). Iowa State, Missouri and Texas Tech were receiving votes.

No. 1 Oklahoma hosts Missouri Saturday at 7 p.m. in Norman in a conference matchup at Owen Field. The game will be televised by FX.
