Nelson Draft Day Quotes
May 10, 2014

On his style of play and versatility
“I feel like my style of play—I have a knack for finding the ball. Explosive, fast, can run sideline to sideline, pretty strong. And I would say covering and playing inside the box, I can do both of those well since I played in two separate defenses at Oklahoma. I can do both of those pretty well, I can play in both of those, depending on wherever the coach wants to put me.”

On his pectoral injury
“My pec is 100 percent, I’m good to go. It was supposed to be a 6-month healing process but it only took me three-and-a-half and I give God all the glory for that. I talked to the Broncos’ coaches a little bit before this whole thing kicked off and they told me they were interested in me and they looked forward to talking to me during the draft and possibly after and we just kept that communication open. Right in the seventh round, that’s when things got serious and they were calling me and other teams were calling me and letting me know, ‘Hey we want you, we’re going to get you, we’re going to do the best we can to get you to be part of the organization.’ So the longest conversation I ever had with Denver was about 10 minutes ago and it was—it was breathtaking.”

On being chosen versus being undrafted
“I’m just pretty happy to be chosen right now. I give God all the glory for everything that’s happened. I just put it all in His hands and put it all in His will because I knew whether I went drafted or undrafted that I would have a spot or a chance to come in and compete for a team.”
