On losing LB Corey Nelson to injury:
“Certain people are going to have to step up. Young guys are going to have to come in and step up. Everybody is just going to have to do a little bit extra. Corey, he’s a great player, he’s a great leader and a great individual for this team. Although he won’t be contributing on the field, he will still be around. I know his leadership will still be there but at the same time you can’t really hide his talent and his passion that he brings to the defense. I know I will have to step up and do a little extra and others realize that as well.”

On what it is like to be such an overwhelming favorite in a game like Texas:
“You don’t really take that much of it into consideration. When we are looked at as an underdog, we’re not really into that as well. So you can’t really do that when you’re picked to win a game either. We know that we will get Texas’ best shot, we know that we have kind of had a streak on them lately. We know they will come out ready and they are undefeated in the Big 12 as well.”

On if OU has a mental edge after winning the last three games:
“Not necessarily. Honestly, sometimes when you are kind of down and maybe you have lost to somebody before it brings a kind of hunger to your level. It brings passion. We know that those guys will be ready. We know their heads are still in the game and that they will try to win and dominate.”

On if the seniors potentially having a 4-0 record against Texas means anything this week:
“You know, for me personally, it does. I would love to stay undefeated in this series and I would love to walk away from my career here at OU and say I was undefeated against Texas. It’s such a big rivalry and I grew up watching it being from Tulsa.”

On Texas QB Case McCoy and defending him:
“He can make plays with his feet. He can make a lot of throws. I haven’t broken him down yet but from what I have seen on TV he just keeps plays alive.”

On what the difference has been defensively this year:
“I think guys are just playing faster, just relentless. I’ve preached to this defense that we need to stay consistent. We need to have that swagger about us that we’re not going to let anybody come in here and run the ball and pass the ball and dominate us as a defense. I feel like guys are doing that, guys are hungry for it, and that’s making a difference.”
