Pete Moris has been named assistant athletics director/communications at the University of Oklahoma. The announcement was made February 20 by OU Vice President and Athletics Director Joe Castiglione.
Moris, who spent 17 years in the public relations office with the Kansas City Chiefs, will join the staff in late February.
"With nearly 20 years in the National Football League, Pete Moris has experienced the evolution of the ever-changing role of the media and public relations," Castiglione said. "While that experience is important, it was his unique skill set, work ethic, core values and ability to think strategically which made him the right fit for us.
"During our search we sought input from an array of sports leaders like general managers, head coaches, public relations directors and many members of the news media to identify the exceptional candidates. Pete Moris' name was mentioned over and over as one of the brightest minds in the business as well as someone who interacts well a variety of stakeholders. We're excited to add his unique perspective to our communications efforts."

Moris rose to associate director of public relations with the Chiefs from 2001-2011 before leaving the organization to open Moris Media and Consulting. With the Chiefs, he worked in strategic communications, marketing, community outreach, brand development and social media.
He worked extensively with national and local news agencies, but also played an active role on the community level including development of marketing and media plans for the rebranding of "The New Arrowhead," capitalizing on the stadium's $375 million transformation.
"Our family is thrilled to join the University of Oklahoma and one of the nation's most respected athletic programs," Moris said. "The invitation to work in an environment permeated by a rich history and championship tradition, combined with progressive leadership, makes this one of the most appealing opportunities in all of sports. We are grateful for the warm welcome we have received, and will enthusiastically embrace Norman as our new home."
Former Chiefs and New York Jets Head Coach Herm Edwards, who now serves as an analyst for ESPN, was one of several NFL voices who endorsed Moris.
"I can say without hesitation that Pete is one of the most reliable and dependable individuals that I worked with while in the NFL," Edwards said. "Pete is not only talented and skilled in his profession; he is a genuinely good person. It was a pleasure to work with him daily."
Moris, a native of Mt. Hope, Wis., graduated maxima cum laude from Loras College in 1993. He was a co-captain on the basketball team at Loras.
Before joining the Chiefs, Moris worked in the media relations efforts with the Indianapolis Colts and the University of Florida
