First Varsity 8 Wins C-USA Boat of the Week
May 06, 2014

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma rowing team first varsity eight was honored as the Conference USA Boat of the Week Tuesday after a championship-winning performance in Oklahoma City last week.

The Sooner 1V8 took first place at the Big 12 Championship on Saturday, ensuring the Big 12 team title for Oklahoma. The boat finished in a time of 7:19.48 to get the victory and make it three straight wins for OU 1V8 boats at the conference regatta.

OU won the Big 12 Championship with 125 total points, defending the Sooners' title after winning the program's first-ever conference championship in 2013.

An automatic bid to the NCAA Championship awaits the Sooners if they can also defend their C-USA title next week on Saturday, May 17, in Oak Ridge, Tenn. With an insufficient number of teams in the Big 12 to qualify the conference winner for an auto bid to the NCAAs, Oklahoma, the other Big 12 programs and other schools also compete in C-USA.
