NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma's varsity eight has been named the Big 12 Boat of the Week for competition from April 7-15.
The varsity eight defeated Big 12 foe Kansas and Sacramento State last Sunday at the Lake Natoma Invitational, finishing in 6:45.0 to take first place. As a team, OU finished seventh in an extremely competitive field behind six ranked opponents from the top-20 and ahead of the Jayhawks and Hornets.
The award is Oklahoma's fourth Big 12 Boat of the Week award since the conference began the honor in 2012 and the third year in a row the Sooner 1V8 has won it at least once.
The Sooners are back on the water this weekend, April 19-20, at the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, S.C., in their last regular season regatta. OU will then host the Big 12 Championship in Oklahoma City on May 3.
