NORMAN, Okla. – Oklahoma rowing alumni recently raced at the Head of the Oklahoma in honor of another former Sooner, Teddi Dwyer Engerer, who is currently battling cancer thousands of miles away in Australia.

Engerer was a member of the first Oklahoma varsity rowing team when the sport began at OU in 2009 and was a member of the varsity four boat that won the program's first individual boat Big 12 championship.

Now married with a new baby, she has been recently diagnosed with appendix cancer and a condition called pseudomyxoma peritonei, a condition that causes cancerous tumors to attach to other organs throughout the body.

As Engerer and her family fight the disease, a collection of former Sooners raced in Oklahoma City on Oct. 5, marking their oars with Teddi's initials and sending get-well messages her way (see photo gallery below).

"Teddi is an amazing young woman who showed tremendous passion and courage on the race course," said OU head coach Leeanne Crain. "I know she'll face this challenge with the same strength and fortitude. All of our thoughts and prayers go out to Teddi and her family at this very difficult time."

Those wanting to know how they can support Teddi and her family can visit for more information.
