TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The No. 1 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team dropped its final meet of the regular season, falling to No. 4 Alabama 197.525-196.900 on Friday in front of 11,776 fans at Coleman Coliseum.

OU finishes the regular season with a 19-1 record, the best winning percentage and the most wins of any team in the nation.

"It felt like we didn't show up until the last event tonight," said OU head coach K.J. Kindler. "We got off to a slow start on bars, missing five out of six landings, then proceeded to go to vault and missed six out of six. We dug ourselves a hole we could not fill."

Freshman Haley Scaman tied or set the team high on all three events in which she competed, scoring identical 9.875 scores on vault, bars and beam. Junior Taylor Spears won the all-around title, her sixth of the year, with a 39.450.

The Crimson Tide, winners of 33-consecutive meets dating back to 2009, took an early lead from which the Sooners never recovered. Alabama tied a season-high on vault with a 49.525 while OU recorded a 49.200 on bars. The Sooners were led by Scaman and senior Brie Olson who each scored 9.875.

Freshman Maile'ana Kanewa matched Scaman's score of 9.875 for the Sooners on vault. OU ended the night on beam, scoring a 49.450, including a 9.95 by Spears. Sophomore Lauren Alexander added a 9.9 as did sophomore Rebecca Clark, tying her career high.

Oklahoma will next look to win its second-straight Big 12 Championship in Ames, Iowa, on Saturday, March 23, at 2 p.m. CT. The Sooners have won four of the last five conference titles and defeated both Iowa State and West Virginia during the regular season.
