This season, thousands of Sooner fans cheered on the Oklahoma women’s gymnastics team at the Lloyd Noble Center, helping propel the team to a 4-1 home record and a No. 2 national ranking to close out the regular season.
Each home meet gave fans an experience filled with talent, excitement and fun. From watching sophomore gymnast Haley Scaman score a perfect 10.0 on the floor exercise to autograph sessions with the gymnasts, there was plenty of excitement for fans to enjoy all season long.
In addition to the excitement, fans that attended a home meet this season were entered to win an electric scooter. For season ticket holder Danielle Sappington and her family, their fun at all five home meets this season earned them that prize.
Where are you and your family from?
We live in Oklahoma City.
How did you hear about the gymnastics meets?
My daughter is a young seven-year-old gymnast and loves the sport. We gave her season tickets for Christmas last season and it was so much fun that we renewed them this season.
Who is your favorite Oklahoma gymnast?
We love all of the OU gymnasts! My daughter's favorite is Haley Scaman.
Why do you love attending the gymnastics meets?
The athleticism, excitement, and skill of the OU gymnasts is truly inspiring. The family atmosphere allows us to cheer loud, dance, and celebrate together. My daughter loves the face painting, party pictures, balloon animals, and getting autographs after the meet. Also, the OU gymnasts are great role models for our daughter and motivate her to work hard and dream big.
Why should everyone come out to support gymnastics at OU?
The amazing talent and ridiculous skill of the gymnasts is incomparable and electrifying. The OU women are among the best in the nation and it's fun to be a part of such a successful team. Plus, the OU gymnasts deserve a packed, loud crowd every meet! It is the duty and privilege of OU fans to support these amazing women!
What went through your head when you found out you won the scooter?
I saw my phone blinking in the middle of the night and read the e-mail. I couldn't believe it! Everyone was asleep and I had no one to tell! When I woke up, I thought I had dreamed it! After double-checking, I ran in and woke my daughter up with the news. She popped up so excited that we had won "out of millions!"
Any big plans for your new scooter?
We are avid campers and plan to take it with us when we go camping. We also visit my sister who lives near the Wichita Wildlife Refuge and plan scoot around when we visit. I am expecting a baby boy in June, so my husband will have all the fun until I am free to zip around on it. We will certainly put it to good use!
