Sooners Hold Strong at No. 1

NORMAN, Okla. -- Three weeks, three No. 1 rankings.

For the third week in a row, the Oklahoma women's gymnastics team is the top-ranked team in the nation. The Sooners hold a team average of 197.317, followed by No. 2 Florida (197.258), No. 3 LSU (197.083) and fourth-ranked Utah and Michigan (196.883). OU is slated to face the No. 2 and No. 3 teams in the nation over the next two weeks of competition.

OU is ranked in the nation's top-three on three of four individual events, coming in at No. 2 on vault (49.442) and beam (49.275) and third on bars (49.317). OU is also ranked seventh on floor (49.283).

Eight Sooner individuals continued to carve out their own place among the nation's elite in the rankings, pulling down 12 total appearances in the top 25. OU is represented by team members from every class in the rankings.

No event has more Sooners in the rankings this week than vault, with four Oklahoma team members making appearances in the rankings. Sophomore Haley Scaman continues to lead the way for OU, sitting at No. 5 nationally on the event (9.917). Classmate Keeley Kmieciak is close behind in a tie for No. 6 (9.908), while fellow sophomore Maile'ana Kanewa is tied for 21st nationally (9.883). Freshman Kara Lovan made her first appearance in the top 25, debuting in a tie for 25th on vault (9.875). 

Three OU team members picked up rankings on beam and bars for the week of Jan. 27. Freshman McKenzie Wofford appears in a tie for first on beam (9.925) after making her first appearance in the lineup last weekend. Wofford is also tied for 22nd on bars (9.858). Senior Taylor Spears came in at No. 8 nationally on beam (9.892) while tying with Wofford for 22nd on bars (9.858). Junior Rebecca Clark is tied at No. 11 on beam (9.875), while classmate Erica Brewer is tied for the same position on bars (9.875). 

Brewer also appeared at No. 6 nationally in the all-around (39.438) and in a tie for 24th on floor (9.875).

The Sooners are set for a top-two showdown this weekend, facing second-ranked Florida on Friday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. CT in Gainesville, Fla.
