NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma women's gymnastics team maintained its No. 1 ranking among the nation's teams for the week of Jan. 20. OU's team average of 197.188 through two meets continues to be the best in the nation, followed by LSU (197.038), Florida (196.863), Utah (196.763) and Michigan (196.663).
The Sooners also remain among the nation's best on all four events. Oklahoma comes in at No. 2 nationally on vault (49.438), No. 3 on floor exercise (49.350) and fourth overall on uneven bars (49.250) and beam (49.113).
Multiple Sooners held tight to top 25 rankings on every event, with junior Erica Brewer leading the week. Brewer is tied for fifth nationally (39.438) in the all-around after winning the title two weeks in a row for OU. The Louisville, Ky., native is also ninth on bars (9.888) and tied for 23rd on floor (9.875).
A trio of super sophomores are ranked on vault and have helped pace OU's No. 2 national ranking on vault. Haley Scaman is tied for No. 5 in the nation on the event (9.925), while Keeley Kmieciak appears at a tie for 11th (9.9) and Maile'ana Kanewa is tied for 17th (9.887). Scaman also pulled down a top-ten appearance on floor, tying for 10th overall (9.9).
Upperclassmen Rebecca Clark and Taylor Spears have been forces for Oklahoma on beam, and their rankings this week continue to reflect their contributions. The duo is tied for ninth in the nation on the event with identical averages of 9.863. Spears is also tied with teammate Brewer for No. 23 on floor (9.875).
Oklahoma is set to hit the road for the first time in 2014 this weekend, facing the Arizona Wildcats on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 5 p.m. CT. The meet will take place in McKale Memorial Center on the University of Arizona campus in Tucson, Ariz.
