NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma women's gymnast Haley Scaman was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week by the conference on Tuesday.
The award is the fourth weekly honor this season for Scaman, who earned recognition for her performance at TWU on Friday. The Riverside, Ill., native tied a career high on vault with a 9.9 to help OU to a top 10 all-time team score on the event. Scaman also recorded a 9.85 on floor, helping her maintain her No. 4 nationally ranking, tops among all freshmen in the country. Scaman is also ranked nationally on vault at No. 17 overall.
OU gymnasts have now won 23 of the Big 12's 27 weekly honors this season.
The freshman was joined by West Virginia's Hope Sloanhoffer and Alaska Richardson who earned Gymnast of the Week and Specialist of the Week honors, respectively.
The Sooners will host their final two regular season home meets next weekend, as No. 16 Arizona visits the Lloyd Noble Center on Friday, March 8, at 7 p.m. CT. Oklahoma will then compete against No. 9 Stanford and North Carolina on Sunday, March 10, at 2:30 p.m. CT on Senior Day.
