NORMAN, Okla. - The season may have ended in April for the Oklahoma women’s gymnastics team, but Rebecca Clark is still accumulating honors for her stellar sophomore campaign.
Clark was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Women’s At-Large Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday. The team recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
A first-team All-American for OU on uneven bars, Clark logged a career-high 9.925 on the event in the NCAA Championship semifinals before finishing seventh nationally in event finals. Clark’s performance aided the Sooners to a second-place performance at NCAAs, tying for the highest finish in school history. She was also the NCAA Norman Regional co-champion on bars and the Big 12 co-champion on beam in 2013.
Clark matched her achievements in the gym with excellence in the classroom, earning Academic All-Big 12 accolades prior to the conference championships. The Blue Springs, Mo., native is an accounting major at Oklahoma.
Clark will now advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second-, and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month. She will look to become the fourth gymnast under Head Coach K.J. Kindler to earn Academic All-America honors at Oklahoma.
