NORMAN, Okla. -- The third-ranked Oklahoma women’s golf team shot a third-round 313 (+25) Sunday to finish in fourth place at the Big 12 Championship in Rhodes, Iowa. The Sooners entered the day in fifth place after the first two rounds at the 6,055-yard, par-72 course at the Harvester Golf Club.
The teams endured cold and windy conditions for much of the tournament with OU finishing the 54-hole event 23 shots behind champion Oklahoma State. Second-place Baylor finished two shots behind OSU and five strokes ahead of third-place Iowa State. OU finished the tournament at +64 and edged fifth-place Texas Tech by three shots.
Baylor’s Lauren Taylor won the individual title with a 54-hole total of 213 (-3). Taylor was the only player to finish the tournament under par and beat second-place Punpaka Phuntumabamrung of Iowa State by eight strokes. Oklahoma’s Anne-Catherine Tanguay finished the tournament in third place, 10 shots out of the lead. It was her second top-five finish at the Big 12 Championship.
"We played in very tough conditions again today," said OU head coach Veronique-Drouin Luttrell. "Anne-Catherine played well all week. She finished third and I am really proud of her. We need to continue to get better and get ready for the Bedlam Cup, as well as NCAA regionals."
Tanguay was OU’s best scorer on the day and on the weekend. The junior shot a 1-over 73 Sunday to finish the tournament in third place with a 54-hole score of 223 (+7). It marked her sixth top-10 finish in nine events this year and continued her streak of placing in the top-20 in every tournament this season. By finishing in the top 10, Tanguay was named to the all-tournament team for the second straight year.
Junior Chirapat Jao-Javanil finished in a tie for 17th place among 45 competitors after shooting a final-round 79 (+7). The 17-over three-day performance resulted in her 26th career top-20 finish and her eighth of the year.
Kaitlyn Rohrback carded an 8-over 80 in the third round, bringing her 54-hole total to 235 (+19). Rohrback finished in 21st place.
Senior Taylor Schmidt also shot a third-round 80 (+8) on Sunday to finish with a three-round 238 (+22). Schmidt finished the tournament in a tie for 29th place.
Junior Emily Collins finished in a tie for 25th place after recording an 81 (+9) in the final round.
The next official event for OU is NCAA regional play May 9-11. The 72-team NCAA field will be announced Monday, April 29, at 8 p.m. CT, and the Sooners will host the NCAA Central Regional at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club. The NCAA Championships will be held May 21-24 in Athens, Ga.
