NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women’s golf team shot a final –round 289 (+1) Sunday, its best round of the weekend, and finished in third place at the 18-team Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. The tournament featured 16 teams in the top 50 of the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.

Fourth-ranked Oklahoma finished the 54-hole tournament with a team total of 871 (+7) to record their third top-three finish in as many events this fall. Duke (-7) won the tournament, played at the par-72 UNC Finley Golf Course, and Vanderbilt (+4) finished in second.

“In general, we played well in this event,” OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said. “We have a little more than week to get ready for the Alamo Invitational. Our focus will be on our short game during practices; anything from wedges to putting.”

Freshman Alexandra Kaui led the Sooners with her tie for 19th place among 96 competitors. Kaui shot a career-best 2 under par (70) in the final round, which gave her a 218 (+2) total after recording a 73 in the first round and a 75 in the second. The Las Vegas, Nev., product made a team-high four birdies on the day and has finished at the top of the Sooner lineup in two of her three collegiate events.

Following Kaui with a tie for 24th place at +3 was senior Emily Collins. Like Kaui, Collins saved her best round for last, shooting a 72 (E) on the final day.

Senior Chirapat Jao-Javanil tied for 27th place at +4. The 2012 NCAA champion sandwiched 74s in the first and third round around a second-round 72.

Senior Anne-Catherine Tanguay finished 32nd at +5 after logging a second-straight 73 on Sunday, while Kaitlyn Rohrback tied for 53rd at +10 after shooting a final-round 83. Rohrback, also a senior, entered the day in a team-best tie for 10th place.

The Sooners will return to action Oct. 27-29 when they travel to San Antonio, Texas, for the Alamo Invitational. They won last year’s event by eight strokes.
