NORMAN, Okla. -- The fourth-ranked University of Oklahoma women’s golf team climbed one spot to third place following Saturday’s second round of the 18-team Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Sooners shot a second-round 290 (+2) and are 14 strokes behind first-place Duke at the par-72 UNC Finley Golf Course. OU trails second-place Alabama by just two shots and is two strokes clear of fourth-place Clemson and Vanderbilt.

Seniors Kaitlyn Rohrback and Chirapat Jao-Javanil led the Sooners on Saturday, each carding an even-par 72. Rohrback, who recorded 16 pars on the day, has shot par or better in each of her last three rounds going back to the Schooner Fall Classic. She is tied for 10th place out of 96 competitors at 1 under par. Jao-Javanil moved up 14 spots on the leaderboard and is tied for 22nd place at +2.

Two more seniors, Emily Collins and Anne-Catherine Tanguay, each shot a 1-over-par 73 Saturday. Collins moved up four spots to a tie for 32nd place at +3 while Tanguay improved two spots to a tie for 40th at +4.

Freshman Alexandra Kaui carded a 3-over 75 in the second round and, like Tanguay, is tied for 40th place.

Fifth-year OU head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said she was happy with her squad’s performance in round two.

“We got off to a solid start today and moved up the leaderboard,” Drouin-Luttrell said. “We have a good game plan in place and will continue to execute it tomorrow. There were a lot of positives today and that will carry over into the final round.”

Third-round action will commence with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. CT Sunday. Live stats are available at
