Greg Tipton

A long-time member of the University of Oklahoma staff, Greg Tipton was promoted to Associate Athletics Director-Internal Operations in July 2011. He served as assistant athletics director for the Sooners from 2007-2011. In his current role, Tipton is responsible for the oversight of OU's Athletics Equipment Operations, oversight of the Lloyd Noble Center and serves as the primary sport administrator for the Sooners' volleyball and baseball teams.

A native of Fairland, Okla., and a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Tipton began his affiliation with the department in 1990 as a student equipment manager. He became the assistant equipment manager in 1995 before taking over as the football equipment manager in 1996. Tipton was promoted again in 2000 to director of athletics equipment, overseeing the needs of the department's 21 teams.

Tipton serves on the advisory boards of several athletics equipment and apparel companies. He oversees the supervision of a staff of seven full-time equipment staff members, graduate assistants and undergraduate students in his role with equipment operations.

In his role as Lloyd Noble GM, he supervises a staff of 11 full-time staff members and a number of graduate assistants and undergraduate students. Since taking over the Lloyd Noble Center, Tipton and his staff have vastly improved the LNC's marketing of the venue for outside events including concerts and conferences.

 

The improved marketing initiatives have paid off as the Lloyd Noble Center has created expanded revenue streams for the OU athletics department in addition to creating new opportunities for the public to share the Sooner experience.

Tipton implemented a web-based inventory control system for accountability of all OU's athletics equipment, apparel and footwear. He is responsible for the contract purchasing and budgeting for the department and was a key member of the negotiating team that secured a multi-year, multi-million dollar apparel and footwear agreement with Nike, Inc.

He serves on the planning committee for OU's bowl games and other championship trips and is responsible for overseeing the ordering and distribution for all championship awards and gifts.

Tipton has played a key role in overseeing or assisting in the project management of several of the department's most recent capital improvement projects including the football operations/locker room area renovation, men's basketball locker room renovation, field house renovation and the women's basketball office renovation. He is currently overseeing master planning projects for OU's L. Dale Mitchell baseball park and improvements to the volleyball staff and team areas of McCasland Field House.

He is a member of the Varsity O Association, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was a member of the Gamma-Kappa chapter of the Kappa Sigma fraternity at OU. Tipton has a bachelor's degree from OU in secondary English education (1995) and a master's degree in human relations (1998), also from OU.

Tipton is married to the former Diana Westrope of Healdton, Okla. Together, the couple is the proud parents of three sons, Alex Cullison, Tyler Cullison, Parker Tipton and one daughter, Rachel Tipton.
