No. 10 Sooners Fall to No. 20 Wyoming

NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 10 University of Oklahoma wrestling squad fell to No. 20 Wyoming, 25-13, Friday night in Arkansas City, Kan., at Cowley College. 

Three Sooners took home individual wins against the Cowboys in Cody Brewer (133), Kendric Maple (141) and Bubby Graham (165).

Brewer picked up the first win of the night in the 133-pound battle after he claimed a 16-6 major decision over Kassey Garnhart. The redshirt freshman built a 6-2 lead in the first period and carried the momentum into the second with a 13-4 advantage. With a significant lead build in the first two periods, Brewer clenched the victory in the final minutes of regulation.

Maple immediately followed with a quick 1:29 fall over McCade Ford to get the Sooners six points on the board and a 10-3 lead three bouts into the night.

Graham claimed the final bout of the match for Oklahoma with an 8-5 decision over Dakota Friesth in the 165-pound bout to secure the Sooners' 13 points on the night.

Freshman Kyle Garcia was the first OU wrestler to take to the mat with a matchup against Wyoming's Tyler Cox. The freshman battled to a 4-4 tie at the end of the first and battled to a 6-5 margin heading into the third. Despite fighting back in the final minutes, Garcia dropped a 9-6 decision to Cox.

After back-to-back Oklahoma wins, Nick Lester dropped a close 3-4 decision to the Cowboy's Austin Breckenridge. The duo battled to a 0-0 tie at the end of the first period and another 2-2 tie at the end of the second, but it was Breckenridge who prevailed in the third and final period with four points to Lester's three.

Brother Matt Lester followed in the 157-pound bout, but fell in an 8-1 decision to Andy McCulley.

Freshman Matt Reed battled in the 174-pound matchup against Lee Helbig. Neither wrestler totaled a score in the first period, but it was Helbig who broke the stalemate and claimed the eventual victory with 5-2 decision.

Fellow freshman Greg Wilson followed in the 197-pound matchup.

Similar to the previous bout, the wrestlers ended he first period with a 0-0 tie, but Woods totaled a takedown in the second to go up two points heading into the third. Wilson added a takedown of his own in the third, but it wasn't enough to sustain Woods who added another two points in the third period to claim a 4-2 decision.  

Another Oklahoma underclassmen took to the mat when Brad Johnson faced Alphonso Hernandez in the 197-pound battle. Hernandez claimed the win with a 19-6 major decision.

Keldrick Hall battled Tanner Harms in the last matchup of the night - but fell after being pinned in the second period.

The match marked the first of two contests for the Sooners in a matter of three days, as the team returns to Norman to face No. 2 Oklahoma State on Sunday afternoon in the annual Bedlam Dual at 2 p.m. CT. 1
