NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 11 University of Oklahoma wrestling squad finished with a 2-1 record at the tenth annual Journeymen/ASICS Northeastern Wrestling Duals Saturday evening, with a pair wins over Hofstra (36-6) and No. 9 Central Michigan (24-14), and a dropped decision to No. 8 Cornell (25-23).

In a series of three separate duals, OU began with Hofstra, then took on No. 8 Cornell and finished against No. 9 Central Michigan.

In its opening dual, OU topped Hofstra 36-6 to claim its first team win of the day, as eight Sooners claimed individual titles.

A trio of OU wrestlers won by fall as Justin DeAngelis took down Jay Lysne in the first period of the 157-pounders, Bubby Graham – No. 6 in the 165 pound weight class – collected a fall in the second period over Nick Terdick and freshman Matt Reed collected a pin fall in the first over Jermaine John to conclude the OU falls against Hofstra.

Nick Lester, the No. 5 149-pound wrestler, collected a 16-0 tech fall over matt Spataro, while Cody Brewer took a 14-6 major decision in a victory over Jamie Franco in the 133-pound bout.

Top-ranked 141-pounder, Kendric Maple, claimed the first decision on the day for OU after he defeated No. 8 Luke Vaith, 7-3, while Greg Wilson (184) and Brad Johnson (197) took home the final two OU victories against Hofstra with a 9-3 decision over Toras Luzhnyy and 8-3 decision over Tim Murphy, respectively.

2012 JOURNEYMEN/ASICS NORTHEASTERN DUALS RESULTS

Against No. 8 Cornell, Oklahoma dropped its first dual competition of the year, 25-13. Despite the loss, four Sooners claimed individual titles.

Three wrestlers remained undefeated after the second bout of competition as Maple put together a 13-1 major decision over Mike Nevinger, Nick Lester topped Chris Villalonga with a 7-2 decision and Reed totaled a 9-3 decision over Duke Pickett.

Matt Lester gathered his first victory of the day after he totaled a 4-0 decision over Chris Dowdy.

The young Sooner squad bounced back quickly, overthrowing No. 9 Central Michigan 24-14, in its final dual of the Journeymen/ASICS Northeastern Wrestling Duals.

With a pair of wins, Maple and Nick Lester finished the Duals with an unscathed 3-0 record. Maple put together a first period fall over Scott Mattingly while Lester held on to a 4-2 overtime decision over Donnie Corby to remain undefeated on the day.

Four other OU wrestlers pulled together wins to overthrow Central Michigan on Saturday with the help of Brewer, Lester, Graham and Johnson. 

Brewer posted the first win for the Crimson and Cream against the Chippewas with a first period fall over Tyler Keserling in the 133-pound battle. Matt Lester (157) followed with a 2-0 overtime decision against Luke Smith, while Graham (165) and Johnson (184) closed it out with a 4-1 and 6-5 decision over Mike Ottinger and Jackson Lewis, respectively.

Oklahoma returns home next weekend with a Sunday evening match, on Dec. 2 against Binghamton. Wrestlers will take to the mat beginning at 5 p.m.
